Plate 229: Cochoa purpurea, the Purple Cochoa (Brian Hodgson, 1836-1894) This stunning watercolor illustration, Plate 229, features the Purple Cochoa or Cochoa purpurea, a bird endemic to the eastern Himalayas and South China. The illustration was created by Rajman Singh in the 19th century as part of Brian Houghton Hodgson's extensive collection of birds and mammals of Nepal.
