This striking photograph captures Edgar Vincent, Viscount D'Abernon, in the year 1909, following his appointment as a trustee of the National Gallery. Born on March 2, 1857, D'Abernon was a prominent figure in British politics and diplomacy, serving as the British Ambassador to Berlin from 1911 to 1918. His distinguished career began when he was elected as the Member of Parliament for Hackney South in 1885, representing the Liberal Party. In 1909, D'Abernon's expertise and passion for the arts were recognized when he was appointed as a trustee of the National Gallery. The National Gallery, located in Trafalgar Square in London, is home to an impressive collection of over 2,300 paintings dating from the mid-13th century to the 1900s.
