This photograph captures the Eiffel Tower in its early stages of completion, with the second etage already in place but a significant amount of work still remaining. The iconic Parisian landmark, which was designed by the brilliant engineer Gustave Eiffel, was initially met with skepticism and criticism from many Parisians who believed it would be a temporary eyesore. However, the tower's unique design and engineering prowess soon won over the public, and it became an instant symbol of French innovation and ingenuity. The image, dated 1878, offers a fascinating glimpse into the construction process of this engineering marvel. The tower's intricate lattice structure, which was designed to be both lightweight and strong, can be seen in its entirety, with workers visible on various levels, adding the final touches to the structure. The tower's distinctive puddled iron base, which was created by pouring molten iron into water, can also be seen taking shape in the foreground. Despite the progress made, there is still a long way to go before the tower's completion.
