Established in the late 15th century, Eyüp Cemetery is one of the oldest and most prominent cemeteries in Istanbul, holding the remains of countless Ottoman sultans, grand viziers, and other notable figures. The cemetery's name derives from Eyüp Sultan, a legendary figure in Islamic and Turkish history who is said to have brought the Prophet Muhammad's mantle to the city during the 14th century.
