Born into the prestigious de Cosse family, Brissac began his military career at an early age and quickly distinguished himself on the battlefield. During the War of the Spanish Succession, Brissac served under the great Marshal Villeroi and gained recognition for his bravery and strategic acumen. In 1757, Brissac was appointed Governor of the French military colony in Louisiana, where he oversaw the defense of New Orleans and worked to strengthen the colony's infrastructure. This prestigious title was a testament to his exceptional service and leadership abilities.
