Sir George Brown (1824-1904) was a distinguished British military leader who served in the Crimean War (1853-1856) against Russia. He played a pivotal role in the defense of the besieged British and French forces at Sevastopol, where he commanded the 2nd Division of the British Army. His leadership during the Siege of Sevastopol earned him widespread recognition and the nickname "The Hero of the Crimea." The Crimean War was a significant conflict in the Eastern European theatre, pitting the Russian Empire against an alliance of the Ottoman Empire, France, and the United Kingdom. The war was primarily fought over the control of the Black Sea and the strategic city of Sevastopol. The conflict marked the end of the Eastern Question, a series of power struggles for influence in the Ottoman Empire, and led to the decline of the Russian Empire's influence in Europe.
