EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases a Mechanical Bulk Foam Tender from the Greater London Council-London Fire Brigade (GLC-LFB), specifically from Edmonton Fire Station (J21), taken in the 1960s. The GLC-LFB was formed on 1 April 1965, and as part of the documentation of the various types of fire engines that were either within or absorbed into the enlarged London Fire Brigade, a series of photos was commissioned. In this image, we see the foam tender parked at the fire station, its red body gleaming under the bright lights. The foam tender was an essential piece of equipment for the fire brigade, used to extinguish fires that were difficult to reach or required a large amount of foam to put out. The mechanical bulk foam tender carried a significant amount of foam concentrate, which was mixed with water at the scene of the fire using a pump. The vehicle's service pump and hose reel are visible at the back of the tender, ready for deployment. The fire engine's design is a testament to the advanced technology of the time, with its sleek lines and modern features. The firefighters of the London Fire Brigade relied on these appliances to keep their city safe, and this foam tender from Edmonton Fire Station was no exception. The photograph captures a moment in time, a snapshot of history, and offers a glimpse into the past of the London Fire Brigade and the important role that these vehicles played in protecting the city. This image is a valuable addition to any collection of fire service history or a reminder of the bravery and dedication of the firefighters who have served and continue to serve their communities.
