EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph, taken in 1907, showcases the unique and whimsical Manor Cars house located in Great Cowden, Hull, near Hornsea and Aldbrough, in the county of Yorkshire, England. Built around 1906 by a wealthy Bradford wool merchant, this extraordinary dwelling was constructed primarily from reclaimed tram cars that had once served the bustling streets of Hull. The house, which bore an uncanny resemblance to a caravan or a gingerbread house, was a testament to the ingenuity and creativity of its builder. The Manor Cars house, with its vibrant red and green tram car exterior, stood proudly against the backdrop of the rolling hills and lush greenery of the Yorkshire countryside. The intricate details of the tram car design were meticulously preserved, with each car's unique features intact. The windows, doors, and even the tram tracks were all incorporated into the house's structure, creating a truly one-of-a-kind residence. Unfortunately, the Manor Cars house did not withstand the test of time. Due to coastal erosion, the house was lost in the 1920s, leaving behind only memories and this photograph as reminders of its existence. Today, the site where the Manor Cars house once stood is a reminder of the rich history and unique architectural innovations of the past. This photograph is a testament to the ingenuity and creativity of the past, and a reminder of the importance of preserving our history for future generations.
