In this elegant and historic photograph, we witness the union of two European royal families as Princess Victoria Melita of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha marries Prince Ernst Ludwig of Hesse-Darmstadt in 1894. The image showcases the portraits of the four parents involved in the marriage, arranged in a clockwise fashion from the top left. The Duchess of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, also known as Victoria Adelaide Maria Antonia, is depicted in the top left corner. She is the mother of the bride and was born a princess of the United Kingdom, the eldest daughter of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Her regal presence and refined beauty are evident in this portrait. To her right, we find her husband, Duke Alfred of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. He is the father of the bride and was born a prince of the United Kingdom, the second son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. His strong and determined expression conveys a sense of pride and protection.
