This evocative photograph captures the raw power and intensity of the First World War's naval battles in East Africa, as HMS M25 (commonly known as the Monitor) bombards the Lukuledi River fortifications from Lindi Bay in July 1917. The Monitor, a British M-class monitors, was one of several ships deployed to support the East Africa Campaign during World War I.
