The battle of Stony Point, fought on the 30th of July in that same year, was a significant turning point in the war, as it was the first major victory for the British since the beginning of the conflict. Sir Henry Clinton, a skilled military strategist, led a daring amphibious assault on the American fortifications at Stony Point, which were located on a narrow peninsula jutting into the Hudson River. The British forces managed to surprise the American defenders, who were caught off guard by the unexpected attack. The battle was brief but fierce, with hand-to-hand combat taking place in the darkness.
