This 14th century image depicts the legendary tale of St. George and the Dragon, as illustrated in the chromolithograph "Costumes, Artworks and Appliances from the Middle Ages to the 17th Century" by Dr. Jakob Heinrich von Hefner-Alteneck. The heroic St. George rides his horse boldly towards the fire-breathing dragon, ready to protect the princess who stands in fear at the dragon's feet. The royal family, including the king and queen, watch from a castle tower, their expressions a mix of awe and relief. The lower part of the print reveals a peaceful scene of knightly loyalty, as a sleeping knight lies amongst a flower garden, surrounded by the symbols of his family crest.
