This evocative photograph captures the thrilling atmosphere of the 1925 Le Mans Race in France, with a Sunbeam car leading the way. The Sunbeam team, consisting of British drivers Henry Birkin and Tim Birkin, had come to dominate the early years of motor racing, and their sleek, powerful vehicles were a sight to behold on the track. The 1920s were a golden age for motor racing, and the Le Mans Race, held annually since 1923, was one of the most prestigious events in the sport. Held on the challenging 8.5-mile circuit in the Sarthe region of France, the race tested both the cars and their drivers to the limit.
