This stunning photograph captures the historic moment of the inauguration ceremony for the new Paul's Cross in front of St. Paul's Cathedral in London, circa 1910s. The cross, a symbol of faith and hope, had been destroyed during a bombing raid in the previous century and was eagerly anticipated as a much-needed replacement. The image shows a large crowd gathered around the newly unveiled cross, with the iconic dome of St. Paul's Cathedral looming in the background. The date on the postcard, October 31, 1910, marks the occasion of the cross's inauguration. The ceremony was a significant event for the people of London, who had endured years of waiting for the restoration of this important religious and historical landmark. The cross, which had been funded through public donations, was designed by Sir Aston Webb and Sir Edwin Lutyens. It was made of Portland stone and stood atop a tall, ornate column. The intricate design of the column, with its decorative carvings and intricate details, is clearly visible in this photograph.
