This enchanting illustration, titled "The Two Pairs of Shoes," is taken from the Dutch fairy tale as published in "Once Upon a Time" no. 24, dated 26 July 1969. The tale, which has been passed down through generations, tells the story of a kind and generous cobbler who, despite his own poverty, gives away his only pair of shoes to two barefoot boys in need. In return, the boys' father, who is actually a disguised fairy godfather, rewards the cobbler with a magical pair of shoes that grant him endless wealth.
