Born in Milan in 1500, Petrus Martyr, whose birth name was Girolamo Cardano, was a prominent figure in the Protestant Reformation in Italy. He is best known for his role in translating the New Testament into Italian and for his theological writings, which challenged the Catholic Church's doctrines and advocated for the primacy of scripture.
