EDITORS COMMENTS
In this historic photograph, taken on May 4, 1909, at Shellbeach, New Jersey, four pioneers of aviation are seen gathered around an early Wright Brothers aircraft. From left to right, we have Horace Short, Orville Wright, Oswald Short, and Wilbur Wright, along with Griffith Brewer. Horace Short and his brother Oswald were among the first to recognize the potential of the Wright Brothers' flying machine and became early advocates for their invention. They were instrumental in promoting the Wrights' work and arranging public demonstrations of their aircraft. Horace even made the first purchase of a Wright Flyer, becoming the first civilian to own one. Orville and Wilbur Wright are, of course, the legendary inventors of the world's first successful motorized airplane. Their Wright Flyer I, which first took to the skies on December 17, 1903, marked the beginning of the aviation age. Griffith Brewer, the man on the far right, was an engineer and businessman who became an early supporter of the Wright Brothers' work. He played a key role in the early days of aviation, helping to organize the first flying exhibitions and promoting the use of airplanes for transportation. This photograph captures a moment in time when these visionary men were at the forefront of a new and exciting industry. The Wright Brothers' invention had opened up a new world of possibilities, and these pioneers were at the forefront of exploring them. The image serves as a reminder of the groundbreaking achievements of these early aviation pioneers and the impact they had on the world.
