EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a collection of statuettes discovered in the tomb of Tutankhamun, an ancient Egyptian Pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty's New Kingdom era. The tomb, located in the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, Egypt, was unearthed in 1922 by Howard Carter, and the discovery of these artifacts brought renewed global interest in Egyptian history and art. The statuettes, crafted from various materials including wood, faience, and polychrome, depict various figures significant to the Pharaoh's life and afterlife. Among them are the god Heka, represented as a man with outstretched arms, symbolizing the power of magic and the gods Nejeperura and Nejeh, who were believed to protect the Pharaoh in the afterlife. The figure of Tutankhamun himself is also represented, holding a scepter in one hand and an ankh, the symbol of life, in the other. The statuettes are adorned with intricate hieroglyphics and hieratic inscriptions, reflecting the advanced knowledge and artistic skills of the ancient Egyptian civilization. The polychromy, or use of multiple colors, adds depth and dimension to the statuettes, enhancing their visual appeal and making them a testament to the artistic achievements of the New Kingdom period. The Luxor Museum, where these priceless artifacts are housed, offers visitors a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of ancient Egypt and the fascinating life of Pharaoh Tutankhamun.
