The Ohio, named after the state, was part of the United States Navy's powerful fleet of sailing warships known as "Ships of the Line." These large vessels were designed for combat in the open sea and played a crucial role in protecting American interests during the 19th century. Built between 1845 and 1848, the Ohio was a typical three-decker frigate, featuring three distinct gun decks. Each deck was armed with a variety of cannons, including 32-pounders, 24-pounders, and 12-pounders. The ship's impressive size and firepower made it a formidable presence on the high seas. The Ohio saw action in several significant naval engagements, including the Mexican-American War and the Civil War.
