Zachary Taylor in Camp, Mexico (1846-1848) This evocative image captures General Zachary Taylor (1784-1850) during his command in Mexico, leading the United States Army to victory in the Mexican-American War. Taylor, a career military man, rose through the ranks to become a respected and formidable military leader. In this photograph from the Mary Evans Picture Library, taken by an unknown photographer, Taylor is depicted in his camp, surrounded by his soldiers and their tents.
