Goals scored by David Jack two minutes after the start of the match and a second half goal by Jack Smit gave Bolton a two nil victory over the Hammers. The final was preceded by chaotic scenes as vast crowds surged into the stadium, far exceeding its official capacity of approximately 125, 000. Its believed a crowd estimated up to 300, 000 gained entrance resulting in the terraces overflowing and spectators surging onto the pitch. Mounted policemen, including one on a white horse, had to clear the crowds from the pitch to allow the match to take place. The game began 45 minutes late as crowds stood on the touchline. This first FA Cup final at Wembley is often referred to as the " White Horse Final"
