The crumbling stonework of Middlesbrough Town Hall came under the experts eye
The crumbling stonework of Middlesbrough Town Hall came under the experts eye... at 170ft in the air. An urgent safety check was ordered after council officials noticed damaged masonry on the clock tower. Two ornamental crosses in danger of falling away were brought down and a detailed inspection carried out around the rest of the tower. Stone specialist Mr John Smiles, from Newcastle, was called in for the operation sand Middlesbrough Borough Councils senior maintenance officer Mr Tom Knott, joined him for the close up inspection.
