A giant of a man with a serious message for schoolchildren

A giant of a man with a serious message for schoolchildren...the Green Cross man visited schools in Mid-Warwickshire to encourage the understanding and use of the Green Cross Code. Weighing nineteen stones and standing 6ft. 6in. tall, the Green Cross man - alias David Prowse, who appeared as villain Darth Vader in the popular " Star Wars" films - put the message across in an enjoyable way. In this instance, his audience were the staff and children of St Josephs R.C. Combined School at Whitnash, near Leamington.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we see a giant of a man with an important message for schoolchildren. The Green Cross man, portrayed by the renowned actor David Prowse, visited schools in Mid-Warwickshire to promote the understanding and use of the Green Cross Code. Standing at an impressive 6ft. 6in. tall and weighing nineteen stones, his presence alone commanded attention. Known for his iconic role as Darth Vader in the popular "Star Wars" films, Prowse skillfully conveyed his serious message to the staff and children of St Josephs R. C. Combined School at Whitnash near Leamington. With enthusiasm and creativity, he engaged his young audience in an enjoyable manner while emphasizing road safety. The year was 1982 when this memorable event took place during a decade known for its vibrant energy - the 1980s. A medium group of boys and girls eagerly listened as they absorbed valuable lessons from their larger-than-life guest speaker. This photograph serves as a reminder of an educational event that left a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to witness it firsthand. It captures not only Prowse's dedication to promoting road safety but also highlights the importance of education and instilling vital life skills in our future generations. Preserved through time by Brian Walkeden's lens, this image stands as a testament to both Prowse's commitment to community engagement and society's collective responsibility towards ensuring children's safety on our roads.
