EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print captured by Kent Gavin, we witness a thrilling polo match between Prince Charles and Princess Diana's friend, Major James Hewitt. The intensity of the battle is palpable as both players fiercely compete on the field. Wearing a red shirt with number 3, Prince Charles displays his determination and skill while facing off against Major Hewitt in his white shirt with number 2. The excitement reaches its peak when Major Hewitt challenges the prince, prompting an exclamation from the commentator about their rough riding-off maneuver. Despite Charles' relentless efforts, it was ultimately the Gulf heroes team who emerged victorious with a score of 4-1 at Windsor. Adding to the regal atmosphere of this eventful day, another member of royalty graces us with her presence - Princess Beatrice. As she presents the polo prizes to the triumphant team members, we are reminded of her lineage as she is introduced as two-year-old daughter of The Duchess of York and Prince Andrew. This photograph serves as a nostalgic reminder of that summer day on July 16th, 1991 - capturing not only moments filled with adrenaline and competition but also showcasing England's love for equestrian sports. It encapsulates an era where polo reigned supreme among British elites and highlights some prominent figures such as Prince Charles himself alongside major events in history like Operation Desert Storm (Gulf War).
