EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a momentous occasion in British history - the opening of Parliament in 1946. The King and Queen, resplendent in their regal attire, embarked on a grand procession from Buckingham Palace to the House of Lords. Accompanied by the majestic Captains Escort of Household Cavalry, their Royal Coach was preceded by a carriage carrying the symbolic crowns. As they reached Victoria Tower at Westminster, an esteemed gathering of great offices of state awaited them. The atmosphere was electric as the king and queen made their way to the Robing Room amidst cheers and applause. To mark this auspicious event, a troop of Royal Horse Artillery fired an impressive 41-gun salute from St James's Park. In this particular snapshot, we see another remarkable sight - the Yeomen of the Guard parading for inspection at the Houses of Parliament. Clad in vibrant uniforms that add splashes of color to this monochrome image, these distinguished guards stand tall with pride. This print not only immortalizes a significant moment but also transports us back to an era when pomp and pageantry were cherished traditions. It serves as a reminder of Britain's rich heritage and its enduring connection with royalty and parliamentary democracy.
