EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back to the vibrant streets of Liskeard, Cornwall in 1969. Standing at Barras Place or West Street, we are treated to a picturesque view of The Parade, with its charming architecture and rich history. In the foreground, we can see the iconic Grade II listed buildings that have stood the test of time. On the left stands Barclays Bank, an elegant structure built in 1851, while on the right proudly stands Webbs Hotel, dating back to 1833. These architectural gems serve as reminders of Liskeard's past grandeur. As our gaze extends beyond these historic landmarks, we catch a glimpse of the Guildhall's clock tower peering over rooftops in the distance. This symbolizes both tradition and community spirit that has long been cherished by locals. The scene comes alive with movement as a sleek black car gracefully turns into Greenbank Road on the left side of the frame. Meanwhile, onlookers may find themselves drawn towards a beautiful fountain designed by architect Henry Rice in 1871 - an exquisite touch amidst this bustling town center. Photographer Charles Woolf skillfully captures this moment frozen in time; his lens immortalizing not just buildings but also snippets of daily life during this era. It is through such photographs that we are able to appreciate and celebrate our heritage.
