EDITORS COMMENTS
This aerial view captures a cattle shelter nestled in the picturesque foothills of the Bale Mountains, located within Ethiopia's renowned Bale Mountains National Park. The region falls under the Oromo tribal district, home to the Oromo people, Ethiopia's largest ethnic group known for their farming and nomadic herding practices. Surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty, this traditional African settlement showcases the harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. The area's fertile lands have sustained generations of farmers and herders who rely on agriculture and livestock for their livelihoods. Bale Mountains National Park boasts an exceptional diversity of endemic wildlife species found nowhere else on Earth. Recognizing its ecological significance, UNESCO included it in their Tentative List of proposed World Heritage Sites back in 2009. Photographed in 2011 by Brian Gadsby from Science Photo Library, this image not only highlights the rural charm but also provides a glimpse into human geography and agricultural practices in 21st century Africa. It serves as a reminder of our interconnectedness with nature and the importance of preserving such cultural landscapes for future generations to appreciate.
