Saturns moon Rhea, Cassini image

Saturns moon Rhea, Cassini image. Rhea is the second largest moon of Saturn, with a diameter of around 1530 kilometres. It orbits just over 527, 000 kilometres from the giant planet. It is composed mainly of water ice with a denser rocky core. Its surface is heavily cratered, indicating that the moon has not seen geological activity (which would erase the craters) for a great length of time. The images was taken on 23rd December 2005 when Cassini was 341, 000 kilometres from Rhea

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the mesmerizing beauty of Saturn's moon, Rhea. Captured by the Cassini spacecraft on December 23rd, 2005, this image offers a glimpse into the enigmatic world that lies over half a million kilometers away from its colossal parent planet. Rhea, being the second largest moon of Saturn with a diameter of approximately 1530 kilometers, is predominantly composed of water ice enveloping a denser rocky core. Its heavily cratered surface tells tales of an ancient past untouched by geological activity for eons. Each impact scar etched upon its terrain stands as a testament to the passage of time and cosmic forces at play. The circular shape and solitary presence of Rhea in this photograph evoke feelings of awe and wonderment. As we gaze upon this celestial body suspended against the backdrop of space, we are reminded once again how vast and mysterious our universe truly is. This remarkable image not only serves as a reminder of humanity's insatiable curiosity about distant worlds but also highlights the incredible achievements made possible through scientific exploration. It represents yet another milestone in our ongoing quest to unravel the secrets held within our solar system. Courtesy: Science Photo Library
