Shrimp goby with its partner shrimp
Wheelers shrimp goby (Amblyeleotris wheeleri) with its partner shrimp (Alpheus ochrostriatus). This goby lives in a symbiotic association with the shrimp. The shrimp digs a burrow in which they both live. The shrimp is blind, however, and relies on the goby to know when it is safe to emerge to feed. It does this by keeping an antenna permanently in contact with the fish. The pair live on sandy seabeds around coral reefs in the tropical Indo-Pacific area. Photographed off Sulawesi, Indonesia
