Born in 1805 and passing away in 1859, Johnson's contributions to astronomy were significant. He had the privilege of observing a total solar eclipse on July 27,1832 while overseeing operations at the St Helena observatory. Later on, he served as Keeper of the Radcliffe Observatory in Oxford from 1839 until his untimely death. Johnson's expertise and dedication to his field were recognized by his peers when he was elected President of the Royal Astronomical Society from 1857 to 1858. In honor of his legacy, a medal known as the Johnson Memorial Prize for advancements in astronomy and meteorology was established in 1862.
