Weka (Rallidae Gruiformes) is a species of flightless birds native to New Zealand, and are the only living species of the genus Gallirallus, and are related to other rail-like birds such as coots and moorhens and can omnivorous, eating a variety of plant material, insects, small mammals and eggs. They have strong legs and feet that allow them to move quickly on land or in shallow water and can also known for their intelligence; they can be trained to perform simple tasks such as opening doors or retrieving objects from water. They have been used in research studies on problem solving and tool use by animals.
