Harbour Porpoise Collection

The Harbour Porpoise (Phocoenidae) is a small cetacean mammal found in temperate and subarctic waters around the world, and is one of six species of porpoises, and the only one that inhabits the coastal areas of Europe, North America, and Asia, stocky body with a blunt snout and small triangular dorsal fin. It typically grows to about 1.5 meters in length and can weigh up to 60 kilograms. Its diet consists mainly of fish, squid, shrimp, crabs, mollusks, and other invertebrates found near shorelines or in shallow waters. The Harbour Porpoise is listed as “near threatened” by the IUCN due to its declining population numbers caused by human activities such as overfishing and pollution. Conservation efforts are underway to protect this species from further decline through habitat protection measures such as creating marine protected areas or reducing fishing pressure in certain regions.
