Hippolyte Leon Benett Collection

Hippolyte Leon Benett was a French painter and sculptor born in 1827. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he was influenced by the works of Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres. He is best known for his large scale historical paintings, which depict scenes from Greek and Roman mythology, as well as Biblical stories. His works were exhibited at the Salon de Paris in 1855 and 1863, and he received several awards for his work. Benett's sculptures are also highly regarded; they often feature classical figures such as goddesses or gods from Greek mythology. He died in 1895 after a long career of painting and sculpting some of the most iconic works of art from that era.
