View of the Loggia of Cupid and Psyche (photo)

2646188 View of the Loggia of Cupid and Psyche (photo) by Raphael (Raffaello Sanzio of Urbino) (1483-1520); Villa Farnesina, Rome, Italy; (add.info.: Rome, Villa Farnesina: view of the Loggia of Cupid and Psyche.
The Loggia takes its name from the decoration frescoed on the vault by Raphael and his workshop in 1517-18. The frescos represent episodes from the fable of Psyche, narrated in Apuleius Golden Ass, which had already been used in the fifteenth century for nuptial imagery.
To give the space a festive and theatrical feel to it, Raphael also transformed the vault of the Loggia into a pergola, adorned with magnificent hanging festoons, as though the greenery of the gardens had invaded the Villa itself. In the centre he designed two fictive tapestries which depict the concluding scenes: the splendid Council of the Gods, where the unjustly persecuted girl is final); Ghigo Roli

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the breathtaking "View of the Loggia of Cupid and Psyche" by Raphael, located in the Villa Farnesina in Rome, Italy. The loggia derives its name from the stunning frescoes adorning its vault, created by Raphael and his workshop between 1517-18. These frescoes depict various episodes from the mythological fable of Psyche as narrated in Apuleius' Golden Ass. Raphael's artistic genius is evident in this masterpiece as he transforms the loggia into a theatrical space filled with festivity. The pergola-like vault is adorned with magnificent hanging festoons, giving an impression that nature itself has invaded the villa. In addition to this enchanting setting, two fictive tapestries designed by Raphael take center stage, depicting concluding scenes from Psyche's story. The print beautifully captures every intricate detail of this architectural marvel and showcases not only Raphael's mastery but also his ability to bring mythology to life through art. It transports viewers back to ancient times when gods roamed Olympus and love intertwined with divinity. With its vibrant colors and meticulous brushwork, this image immerses us in a world where beauty blooms alongside mythology. It serves as a testament to both Raphael's talent and Villa Farnesina's rich history as a sanctuary for art enthusiasts seeking solace amidst timeless masterpieces.
