Meeting of pitmen, on Pittington Hill, 1844. Creator: Unknown
Meeting of pitmen, on Pittington Hill, 1844. Procession of miners in County Durham. An unfortunate difference at present exists between the pitmen and the coal owners, as the readers of the " Illustrated London News" will have perceived stated in former columns, which has led to an extensive strike. For some time the men have been making preparations for this movement, by an organised union, embracing the whole body of miners in England, Scotland, and Wales and engaged a solicitor, whom they term their " Attorney-General, " to conduct and advise in their affairs.
