The image, taken in Malta in 1925, is one of five known copies of this portrait. Claude George Headley was born in 1881, making him around 44 years old when this photograph was taken. Despite his age, he is depicted here in the uniform of a drummer boy, suggesting that he may have joined the regiment at an earlier age or been a replacement drummer. The East Lancashire Regiment, also known as the "Lancashire Fusiliers," was a renowned infantry regiment of the British Army, with a rich history dating back to the late 17th century.
