This photograph captures the historic moment when the Wright Brothers, Orville (left) and Wilbur (right), successfully launched their glider, named the Flyer I, at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina on December 17, 1911. The brothers, who are dressed in heavy coats and goggles, are seen standing next to their aircraft, which is poised on the sandy beach.
