At the heart of the scene, we find Hagen, a renowned warrior and trusted advisor to Gunther, King of Burgundy. Surrounded by a curious crowd, Hagen stands before a magnificent castle, its towering walls and battlements a testament to the power and wealth of the kingdom. Above the castle, two griffins, mythical creatures with the body, tail, and back legs of a lion; the head and wings of an eagle; and an serpentine tongue, soar menacingly in the sky. According to the story, the griffins had been terrorizing the land, hoarding gold and silver from the castle. Hagen, determined to put an end to the creatures' reign of terror, devises a plan to lure them into a trap. As the crowd looks on, Hagen sets the stage for the final confrontation. With a mixture of anticipation and fear, they watch as the griffins circle above, their golden eyes fixed on their prey.
