At the heart of the scene, we find Hagen, a renowned warrior and trusted advisor to Gunther, King of Burgundy. Surrounded by a curious crowd, Hagen stands before a magnificent castle, its towering walls and battlements a testament to the power and wealth of the kingdom. Above the castle, two griffins, mythical creatures with the body, tail, and back legs of a lion; the head and wings of an eagle; and an serpentine tongue, soar menacingly in the sky. According to the story, the griffins had been terrorizing the land, hoarding gold and silver from the castle.
