Kennedy Jr. (1915-1944), the eldest son of the future U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. (1888-1969), lends a helping hand at the American Embassy in London. With the outbreak of World War II on September 1, 1939, a rush of Americans sought to depart from Britain, and the embassy became a hub of activity. In this photograph, taken in September 1939, Joseph Kennedy Jr. can be seen working diligently at the embassy, assisting in the processing of the numerous applications for travel documents and visas.
