Schutte-Lanz SL.1 rigid airship, designed and Built by the Schutte-Lanz company, set-up by Johann Schutte and Karl Lanz. The SL.1 was Built largely from wood with a geodesic framework, similar to the construction method developed by Barnes-Wallis in the 1930s. First flown on 17 October 1911 the SL.1 had a few accidents and was modified to improve stability, amongst other problems. The SL.1 was finally withdrawn from use after a forced landing on 17 July 1913, during the return flight to Berlin, from Konigsberg Date: circa 1910
