This evocative mural, painted on the end corner of a terrace house in Belfast, Northern Ireland, pays tribute to Bobby Sands, the iconic Irish Republican and former MP for Fermanagh-South Tyrone. Painted in 2011, the mural captures the intensity and passion of Sands' political beliefs and his enduring legacy as a symbol of resistance during the tumultuous period of the Northern Irish Troubles. Bobby Sands, born in 1954, was a prominent member of the Irish Republican Army (IRA) and was imprisoned several times for his activism. In 1981, he embarked on a hunger strike in the Maze Prison, demanding to be recognized as a political prisoner rather than a criminal. Sands' strike gained international attention and ultimately led to the deaths of ten other republican prisoners who followed his lead. Sands himself died on May 5, 1981, after 66 days without food.
