Competitors for the great Lawn Mower Grand Prix line-up on the Sands Hatch starting grid, waiting for Holmfirth Round Table chairman Mr Trevor Coldwell to drop the chequered flag. Some 20 contestants entered the three classes of races - held on Sands recreation ground - organised by the Round Tablers with sponsorship from Whitbreads brewery to raise money for Holme Valley charities. All the machines had their cutting blades removed before the races. Silkstone Band provided music for the event, which also featured a range of sideshows and refreshments. 1st September 1985
