Pilchard drift boat on the River Kenwyn at Back Quay in Truro showing Samuel Brokenshires carriage factory in the background. A number of carts and carriages are parked on the quay, with a number of onlookers who are possibly workers from the factory. The coach builder, Samuel Brokenshire (also a shoeing smith) is recorded in Kellys Directory, 1889, at Back Quay, Royal Hotel Yard, Truro. The boat, 364FH, was registered in Falmouth. The main Fisheries Exhibition site was a field at the top of Lemon Street and the exhibition ran from 25th July 1893 for a month. This print takes us back to the summer of 1893 in Truro, Cornwall. The focal point is a Pilchard drift boat gracefully floating on the River Kenwyn at Back Quay. In the background, we catch a glimpse of Samuel Brokenshire's carriage factory, an integral part of Truro's bustling industrial landscape. The quay is adorned with carts and carriages parked neatly along its edge, suggesting a busy day at work for those possibly employed by Brokenshire. A group of onlookers can be seen observing the scene, their curiosity piqued by the activities unfolding before them. Samuel Brokenshire himself was not only a coach builder but also skilled in shoeing smithing. His presence in Kellys Directory from 1889 solidifies his reputation as an esteemed craftsman within Truro's business community.
