Known as plant lice, aphids are specialised plant feeders that suck the sap from plant veins. At centre is the head with long antennae, compound eyes, and a tube-like sucking mouthpart (proboscis). The pro- boscis is penetrating the leaf surface while it feeds. There are three pairs of walking legs; at the posterior end of the body are two short tubes called cornicles which secrete pheromones and waxes. Macrosiphon rosae feeds on domestic roses.
