EDITORS COMMENTS
This lithograph print, titled "The palaces of Nimroud [Calah] restored, 1853" takes us on a journey back in time to the ancient city of Nineveh. Created by Austen Henry Layard, this artwork showcases the grandeur and architectural brilliance of the palaces that once stood in Nimrud. The image transports us to a world where King Sennacherib ruled over Assyria during the 8th century BC. The scene depicts his grandson Ashurbanipal's library, a testament to their rich cultural heritage. As we gaze upon the print, we can almost imagine ourselves walking through these majestic halls adorned with intricate bas-reliefs and surrounded by exquisite bronzes.
