EDITORS COMMENTS
This broadside announces the final parachute jump performed by the intrepid Elisa Garnerin at the Champ de Mars in Paris on April 21, 1815 or 1836. The announcement marks the third and last parachute descent by Garnerin, a pioneering figure in the history of aeronautics. The event took place on a Sunday, and the profit from the spectacle was for Garnerin's own benefit. The image on the left shows two parachutes, one above the other, with the larger one inscribed with the words "Parachute de Melle Garnerin." The smaller parachute bears the name "Tissandier." These parachutes were used in Garnerin's daring jumps, which captivated audiences and advanced the understanding of human flight. Garnerin's parachute jumps were a significant departure from earlier attempts at human flight, which often ended in tragedy. Her innovative designs and fearless spirit paved the way for future aeronautical achievements. The broadside's bold typography and vivid colors reflect the excitement and anticipation surrounding her final jump, making it an essential piece of aeronautical history.
