EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the facade of the Marquis Cornwallis Public House, located in the vibrant and historic area of Shoreditch in London. Established in the late 19th century, the Marquis Cornwallis was once a beloved local watering hole, known for its rich history and welcoming atmosphere. The name of the pub is believed to have been derived from the Marquis Cornwallis, a British Army officer who played a significant role in the late 18th century, most notably in the American Revolutionary War. The red brick exterior of the pub, adorned with ornate detailing and intricate carvings, stands out against the modern backdrop of Shoreditch's ever-evolving urban landscape. The large, arched windows provide a glimpse into the cozy interior, where patrons would gather to enjoy a pint and lively conversation. Unfortunately, as of July 2018, the Marquis Cornwallis Public House was no more. Demolished to make way for new development, this photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the pub's storied past. The back of the print details the address of the pub, located at 3BS, Shoreditch, London, a testament to its former existence. This photograph is a treasure trove of history, capturing the essence of a bygone era in Shoreditch's rich and diverse past. Whether you're a local or a visitor to the area, this image is a must-have for any collection of London memorabilia.
