Westwood's new edition of Dru Drury's Illustrations of Exotic Entomology, published by Bohn in London in 1837, showcases two captivating species of butterflies: the Western Emperor Swallowtail (Papilio menestheus) and the Indian Sunbeam (Curetis thetis, formerly known as Thecla thetis). The Western Emperor Swallowtail, depicted in images 1 and 2, is a large and vibrant butterfly native to the western United States and Mexico. The male (1) is characterized by its black wings with distinctive yellow and blue markings, while the female (2) displays more subdued colors with orange and brown patches.
