La Croix d'Honneur" is a powerful and poignant image created by renowned French artist and war correspondent, Georges Scott. Born in 1873, Scott began his career in the 1890s and gained early recognition working as a war correspondent for the prestigious news magazine L'Illustration during the Balkan Wars of 1912-13. When war broke out in 1914, Scott answered the call to duty by joining the French Army. Remarkably, he was able to continue his work as an artist and illustrator for L'Illustration, producing many now famous works dealing with the Great War.
